Practice Description

At the initial visit each patient undergoes a thorough history and physical examination, a comprehensive body composition analysis, appropriate laboratory testing and extensive counseling. 

Upon completion of these, a individualized weight loss plan is developed which will address the unique needs and goals of the individual patient. 

Also during this visit general health maintenance will be discussed and specific recommendations for each patient such as cancer screenings, immunizations, etc. will be made. 

Follow up visits with Dr Baker are scheduled as necessary and appropriate based upon the weight loss plan developed.  These visits allow for  monitoring of progress (weight and health improvement), assessment of dietary and behavioral modifications, medication effects (if prescribed) and adjustments to the plan as required for improved efficacy. 

Upon reaching the established weight goal, each patient will have a maintenance program developed for them, that when followed, will allow the patient to avoid the problem of regaining the weight previously lost. 

Overweight and obesity are chronic conditions which to successfully be addressed, require an ongoing commitment by the patient and support from others.  Dr Baker and the other members of The M.D.'s Weight & Wellness Center, P.A. can provide much of that support.

Michelle , heard about Baker from a client who called him “the real deal.” Michelle, needed to lose weight, but had been having trouble getting started. So, with her client’s encouragement, she made an appointment with Baker.

Michelle has a family history of high cholesterol and had noticed that her cholesterol levels were beginning to rise, so she was especially interested in making lifestyle choices that would help her maintain a healthy weight. She was pleased when Baker coached her on how to achieve her goals by recommending an exercise program, suggesting a healthy diet and helping her learn to eat for nutrition instead of for psychological reasons. He also helped her get off to a quick start by prescribing an F.D.A.-approved weight loss drug.

“Basically, the medication just makes it a little bit easier,” Michelle said. “It’s not a magic wand. It didn’t make me want to go to the gym all those times and didn’t make me want to stop when I was full and not snack, but it helped me.”

In just a few months, Michelle lost 32 pounds, lowered her LDL (“bad”) cholesterol by 30 points and began to feel like she had regained control of her health. She has lost seven inches from her waistline and has also gained mobility that has helped her avoid repetitive motion injuries.

“It has been huge,” she said. “What impressed me was that he took the time to discuss my situation, my challenges, my own personal goals – the things that were individual to me.
